Canvas Accessibility for Title II

This page provides a simple, 4-step starting point for making your Canvas course more accessible and aligned with Title II ADA requirements. Using Canvas’s built-in Accessibility Report, you can identify and fix common issues, track your progress, and access support as needed.

Step 1

If you have not already done so, consider running TidyUp in your Canvas course before reviewing accessibility issues so you can focus on files and content students will actually use. Get started with the TidyUP guide.

Step 2

In your Canvas Course, click Accessibility report in the left-hand navigation

Accessibility Report not there?
If your left-hand navigation does not include “Accessibility Report,” scroll to the bottom and select “Settings,” then choose “Navigation” in the top menu that appears—this will open all the items that do/can appear in your regular course navigation. Locate “Accessibility Report” toward the bottom, then drag and drop this into the visible course navigation column and save your changes.

Step 3

Fix any content with accessibility issues. Start with the content that is easiest to fix. If you run into trouble, go here for additional resources and instructions, or skip that content and come back to it later. We’ve also put together a short list of tips for making PDF files accessible.

Step 4

Watch your Accessibility Score rise as content is fixed. The goal is to be fully compliant, and any progress helps!
