Adding Outcomes to New Quizzes in Canvas:
A Step-by-Step Guide

To get started, ensure the outcomes you want to link to your quizzes or questions have already been created in your course. If they aren’t set up yet, you can follow the instructions here: [Insert Link to Instructions on Adding Outcomes to a Course].

Adding an Outcome to a New Quiz:

1. Create a New Quiz or Access an Existing One:

  • To create a new quiz, go to Quizzes in your course navigation and click +Quiz.
  • Enter the quiz title and configure quiz settings as needed, then click Save.
  • If you’re adding outcomes to an existing quiz, navigate to Quizzes, then select the quiz you want to edit.

2. Align Outcomes:

  • Scroll down and select Build.
  • On the right side of the Build page, click the Outcomes button.
  • Click Align Institution Outcomes to this quiz.
  • Browse through the available outcomes and select the ones you want to connect with the quiz.
  • Click Confirm Alignments to finalize your selection.

Adding an Outcome to a Specific Question:

1. Edit the Question:

  • On the Build page, find the question you’d like to link to an outcome.
  • Click the pencil icon next to the question to edit it.

2. Align Outcome:

  • Scroll down and find the Align to Outcomes dropdown panel.
  • Click Align Institution Outcomes to Quiz.
  • Click to expand the options, and select the outcomes you want to associate with this particular question.
  • Click Confirm Alignments to apply the changes.

3. Save the Question:

  • Double-check that the correct outcomes are listed.
  • Click Done to save the question.
