AASN to RN-BSN Seamless Admission

AASN Bridge Program

The AASN Bridge Program gives Utah Tech nursing students a head start on a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

As an AASN student, you can begin taking courses from the fully online RN-BSN program before you finish your associate degree. This can help you save time as you work toward both your AASN and BSN.

You have three options for moving from the AASN to the RN-BSN program.

After completing your first semester in the AASN program, you can take an elective from the RN-BSN program.

This is a good option if you want to get an early start on your BSN without beginning the full RN-BSN program.

• All AASN students can take electives after completing their first semester.
• Students who begin the AASN program in spring may take up to four electives during the summer.
• Available RN-BSN electives include:NURS 3200: Health Assessment Across the Lifespan
  • NURS 3300: Transcultural Nursing
  • NURS 3400: Information Management and Technologies
  • NURS 3700: Holistic Healthcare of the Older Adult
• NURS 3900: Pathophysiology is a prerequisite for the RN-BSN program.

When you are ready for the next step, you can apply for provisional admission to the RN-BSN program and take NURS 3100: Professional Role Transition.

You can apply for provisional admission to the RN-BSN program at the beginning of your second AASN semester.

To get started:

• Submit your Letter of Intent.
• Complete NURS 3900: Pathophysiology or an approved equivalent course.
• Begin your core BSN courses with NURS 3100: Professional Role Transition.

You will also need to take and pass the NCLEX-RN. After you earn your RN license, submit proof of your license to the RN-BSN advisor.

You must have a current RN license before you can begin your second semester of core RN-BSN courses.

Q: What if I have trouble scheduling or passing the NCLEX-RN?

A: The RN-BSN is a post-licensure program, which means students must become licensed registered nurses to continue in the program. We understand that delays can happen. If you have trouble scheduling or passing the NCLEX-RN, contact the Program Director or Program Advisor. They can discuss your situation with you and help you determine your next steps.

You don’t have to begin your BSN coursework while completing your AASN. You can finish your AASN, take the NCLEX-RN, and then apply to the RN-BSN program when you are ready.

• Complete your AASN.
• Apply to the RN-BSN program through Utah Tech Online.
• Take and pass the NCLEX-RN.
• Submit proof of your RN license by your second semester of BSN coursework.
