Bridge the gap

AASN to RN-BSN Seamless Admission

AASN Bridge Program

Students of the AASN Bridge Program have a unique opportunity to seamlessly enter the RN to BSN program as active UT students. This flexible process provides an opportunity for bridge program students to efficiently complete both their AASN and BSN degrees seamlessly by beginning coursework in the fully-online RN-BSN program as they complete the AASN program and taking the NCLEX-RN.

There are three options for transitioning from the AASN to RN-BSN program:

Take an elective course after your 1st completed AASN semester and proceed from there.

Gain provisional admission to the RN-BSN program at the beginning of the 2nd AASN semester and begin core coursework.

Complete your AASN and apply for admission to the RN-BSN through the usual pathway. You will be required to have passed the NCLEZ-RN by your second semester in the program.

Take an elective course after your 1st completed AASN semester and proceed from there.

After AASN students have successfully completed one semester of coursework, they may take an elective course from the RN-BSN program.

  • Electives may be taken by all AASN students regardless of date of admission (fall, spring)
  • Spring admission AASN students may wish to take more than one (up to four) electives over the summer
  • RN-BSN elective courses include:
    • NURS 3200 Health Assessment Across the Lifespan
    • NURS 3300 Transcultural Nursing
    • NURS 3400 Information Management and Technologies
    • NURS 3700 Holistic Healthcare of the Older Adult
  • NURS 3900 Pathophysiology is a prerequisite for the RN-BSN
  • The next step will be to apply for provisional admission and take NURS 3100 Professional Role Transition

Gain provisional admission to the RN-BSN program at the beginning of the 2nd AASN semester and begin core coursework.

  • Apply for provisional admission to the RN-BSN program as an AASN Bridge student
    • Submit your Letter of Intent
    • You must have completed the pre-requisite course NURS 3900 Pathophysiology or obtained credit for an equivalent course.
    • Begin core BSN coursework with NURS 3100 Professional Role Transition
  • Move forward with taking, and passing, your NCLEX-RN and submitting documentation of your new RN license to the RN-BSN advisor.
    • You must have a current RN license documented with the program to move into the second semester of core coursework.

Q: What if I run into difficulties scheduling, taking, or passing my NCLEX-RN? How will this affect my ability to move forward with my BSN completion?

A: The RN to BSN program is a “post-licensure” program, meaning it is designed for licensed RNs and this is a requirement for students to progress in the program. However, faculty and administrators are aware that individual circumstances can occur. Please reach out to the Program Director and Program Advisor to discuss your individual situation and let us see how we can work with you to keep you on track for degree completion.

Complete your AASN and apply for admission to the RN-BSN through the usual pathway. You will be required to have passed the NCLEZ-RN by your second semester in the program.

  • Feel free to work at your own pace and simply apply to the RN-BSN once you have completed your AASN. We are here for you and excited to see you in classes when you are ready.

Not sure which choice is right for you? Please reach out to our RN-BSN Advisor or Program Director. We will work with you to facilitate seamless admission into the BSN program, whether you want to complete your BSN quickly, take a short break, or finish slowly to accommodate your busy schedule.
